Today a friend alerted me to a joint production between Skrillex and Diplo titled, ‘Amplifier.’ Skrillex is currently the king of Dubstep, whilst Diplo is pushing Moombahton records via his label Mad Decent as well as releasing albums with heavyweight producer Dillon Francis.
I began to picture in my head what it was going to sound like. Moomba-step? Dubton? What will this clash of genres produce? I was well off. The genre-blend of Dubstep and Moombahton has been titled ‘Moombahcore.’
The track features some very distinctive Skrillex sounds; although this production is a lot tamer compared to anything else you’ve heard from the man. This must have been where Diplo stepped in. Consider this, Skrillex is a Lion, Diplo it’s Master. When you first saw the Lion in the wild, he was scary and untamed. Since being introduced to training from his Master – they are now ready to perform. Throw the two on stage together – this is what you get.
