Interview with Zee

Let me tell you a story about a ‘fusion of techno, acid, house and italo disco.’

Inspired by the likes of Azari & III and The Chemical Brothers, ZEE are pioneering a movement historians will call ‘the nu-wave 80’s revolution.’ Kris Baha is the man fiddling with the buttons with cameo appearances on synth, bass and keys. Marcus Pocaro explores the wonderful world of percussion while Jack Brynes concludes the trio as designated frontman with wisdom far beyond his age.

I had the opportunity to pong (yeah, pong!) words with band that concluded in some interesting discussion on Turkish cuisine.

PA: “Firstly, Why Zee? What does the name mean?

Kris:
It an ancient proverb used by the kalumantaka tribe.

PA: If you could compare your sound to somebody/something, who would it be?

Jack:

Ok , so it’s a bit of a long story. If Soulwax, The Presets and Goldfrapp had a threesome, the result would be Zee’s father, his name’s Bill Wexler. After graduating from college Bill spent a year on the road, in an attempt to find himself, travelling the backstreets and open highways of the American mid-west. It was the 60’s you know, things were different then. While in New Orleans he met a young Creole girl, they fell in love, she fell pregnant and that’s how Zee was born. Forbidden love in the city of roaring jazz. Cool story huh?

PA: When can we expect a first release?

Marcus:

Soon hopefully. We’re still working on some of the tracks at the moment, but soon.

PA: Whats your favourite food?

Jack:

Marcus and I often have lengthy discussions regarding food, and what kind we would like to eat. It sometimes takes us hours to be fully content that we’ve made the right decision, by that time as you can imagine we are much hungrier than when we first started talking about it. Something that I’m always in the mood for would probably be Turkish cuisine, or anything from the Arabic nations!
