Finding great music is generally good enough. Realising it’s local? (Or local enough compared to the other side of the world) Even better. Well that’s the exact feeling I got when I heard the latest EP from DZ DEATHRAYS’ (formally DZ: name changed due to dubstep becoming a global phenomena and UK dubstep DJ titled ‘DZ’ becoming massive = confusion) Brutal Tapes. For those of you that don’t know, DZ DEATHRAYS (always spelled in capitals) describe themselves as a thrash-pop band hailing from Brisbane. The DFA 1979 inspired two piece produce some catchy and hard hitting tunes as well as being known for their captivating live performances (especially at house parties!).

The featured track Gebbie Street is nothing short of greatness with some grungy distorted guitars and loud rock screams. It’s that kind of music your mum hoped you would never listen to, but could never quite keep away.

The future is looking bright for this young band; they are touring the UK with Cerebral Ballzy (NYC) and Thrush Metal (UK) then jetting around Australia later this year with Dananananaykroyd! In saying that, I personally suggest you go buy their EP now while its still only $9.99, because I can assure you these guys are going to be massive! From then on, add an extra fifteen dollars and it is almost out of reach for any indie hipsters to get their hands on.
