In the last 12 months Loon Lake has really began to shine in the indie rock scene, hitting up venues all across Australia and getting some quality airtime on Triple J. The five piece band consists of three brothers and two mates.
Loon Lake has an honest rock ’n’ roll vibe; their tracks aren’t over produced and have a distinct raw feeling to them. Impressive guitar riffs from, ‘Into The Office’ and the true feeling of desperation and sincerity in the vocals of, ‘Bad To Me’ (…particularly live) genuinely display how talented the band is.
I recently had the privilege of attending one of their more notable gigs, when they graced the stage at the Triple J Unearthed launch party. The charismatic and slightly drunk front man Dan bantered with the audience and broke down the barrier between the band and its patrons. Hailing from country Victoria they seem like a bunch of genuine Aussie larrikins, one couldn’t help but imagine kicking back and sharing a beer with them – They would probably be more than happy to.
Be sure to get a copy of their debut EP, ‘Not Just Friends’.
Word on the monkey bars is these guys are set to release an album early next year, so keep your ears open and eyes peeled.
Peace ☮- From Liam.
